in response to anon re: jewnicorns, but also to everyone reading: i think that's super interesting - i never thought of it that way. (i'm jewish. and i like unicorns.) but i think that if someone asked 'what's a jewnicorn?' our explanations would be similar to the mod's and involve naming andrew and jesse, and noting that the term is specific to them. it really is all about andrew and jesse. not any other jews, or unicorns, or anyone else at all. that's how i explain it, at least.

I would discuss the whole thing more but I also don't find the term offensive. I was just telling you what others have said about why they find it offensive. Also, as someone who's not Jewish herself I'm wary of getting into a discussion about something I personally am not involved it. Sorry if I just confused you more, was just trying to help!

Thank you for at least bringing it to discussion because without discussion nothing is changed and no one’s eyes are opened to anything.

My eyes were opened to how people were feeling offended by the term.

I’ve just never used the term in the way that people were offended by them. I hope that makes sense.

I'm not in the fandom enough to know the specific complaints, but personally I find the term "jewnicorn" pretty grossly fetishizing of the actors jewish ethnicity, while also being sort of weirdly infantilizing.

I kind of responded to that in my last response. Thank you so much for your input.

In short I said something along the lines of the fact that I use the term to describe the feelings I get when I see Jesse or Andrew which are “Wow! You’re Jewish just like me! You’re so lovely and awesome! That’s so cool!” Not as a weird fetish thing. Because if it was used like that then I would take IMMENSE OFFENSE to it!

I'm not the same anon, but I think a lot people find "jewnicorn" to be a bit of weird fetishization/simplification of the Jewish identify. I'm not super up to date on this, but I know a number of Jewish fandom members found the term offensive.

Like I said previously. I am Jewish, I’ve lost family in the Holocaust. I’ve faced antisemitism first hand and I would never ever insult my own culture or make it into some sort of fetish.

I respect Andrew and Jesse as people. I see them as people who just so happen to be Jewish and they also have qualities that are similar to unicorns to me. They are both unique and they are both insanely beautiful people inside and out.

I’ve only used the term to describe the feeling that they bring to me of  ”Wow, you are Jewish just like me! And you’re awesome! How cool is that?” Not as an insult or any sort of degradation towards them or my culture as a whole.

Some people believe that the term "Jewnicorns" fetishize an entire culture thus it can be very offensive.

This is coming from a Jew and I don’t find the term offensive at all. It’s more of a term of endearment to me.

I mean, let’s break the word down.

“Jew” which means someone of Jewish decent. Andrew and Jesse are both Jewish.

“Nicorn” derivative of the word “unicorn” which is a mythological creature that is famous for it’s symbolism of purity, uniqueness and innocence. They are also gorgeous creatures.

I mean, this is what I take from it. If you would like to discuss it further with me in my own personal ask (preferably unanon). You are more than welcome to. I would love to talk more about this with you.

i love that this blog is starting up again! i find the term 'jewnicorn' really problematic though, as i think a lot of others in the fandom do to, so i would hate to see a url change! just putting my two cents in there! :)

I think we are going to keep the same URL because it’s the URL that got us to where we are now.

Forgive my ignorance, but why does the fandom find the term “Jewnicorn” “really problematic?” There are literally no negative connotations to it.

However, thank you so much for your love and support for our little blog it means the world to us! We hope to keep you entertained and amused for as long as we can!

EXCITING UPDATE!

Dear followers of this lovely blog,

We are so sorry for the lack of posts on this blog, however, we do have some really amazing news for you guys!

WE ARE GOING TO START BACK UP AGAIN!

We are considering branching out and using other films and projects that the Jewnicorns (even some Justin, Armie, Dustin, and some of the other cast) have been in or will be in. That way we will have an endless supply of caps on our side and we will not turn into irrelevance. Because Mark Zuckerberg would be ashamed of that.

We will still keep the format the same. We will make the caps and edit them to our pleasing. However, we might end up changing the URL to jewnicorntexts.
